The United States Department of Agriculture is federal executive department that is primarily responsible for the development and execution of the US federal government policies regarding food, farming and agriculture.

The work of the Department of Agriculture revolves around the idea of attending to the needs of farmers and ranchers, as well as the promotion of agricultural trade and production while simultaneously assuring food safety, protecting natural resources in the country and the rest of world.

In line with its agency objectives, the Department of Agriculture has recently established the Value-Added Producer Grants program, otherwise known as VAPG.

The Value-Added Producer Grants program is geared towards helping the Independent Producers of Agricultural Commodities, Agriculture Producer Groups, Farmer and Rancher Cooperatives, and Majority-Controlled Producer-Based Business Ventures in developing techniques that would create marketing opportunities and establish business plans involving viable marketing opportunities that involve the production of bio-based products from agricultural commodities.
