At present, farming and agriculture are two of the largest and most profitable industries in America. The United States Government gives great importance to these industries as it is also where the food industry belongs.

The federal government has constituted a lot of programs that are geared towards the development and execution of efficient policies on farming, agriculture, and food. In fact, the United States federal government has established a separate agency in an effort to ensure that the farming, agriculture, and food industries are constantly sustained, developed, and encouraged.

In the year 1862, President Abraham Lincoln mandated the creation of the United States Department of Agriculture, otherwise known as USDA. The establishment of the USDA was strengthened by its agency's mission, which is to provide leadership on food, natural resources, agriculture, and other associated issues that are all based on sound public policy, the best available technology, and efficient and effective management.

The US Department of Agriculture aims to achieve this mission by way of programs, including grants, loans and other forms of financial assistance that are made consistently made available to farmers and eligible agricultural sectors.
