Primarily, the goal of this project is to document and monitor the presence of zebra and quagga mussels, create and develop a control measure that would hinder their production, and ultimately, reduce of the risk of zebra or quagga museels infestation in Idaho waters.

The activities that will be covered under this project basically include the following:

a) The process of sampling 26 bodies of water which are at-risk of zebra and quagga mussels infestion utilizing the sampling protocol recommended by the Idaho Invasive Species Council.

b) The process of determining the bodies of water that have been infested by zebra and quagga mussels.

c) The process of disseminating information regarding a possible infestation in order to immediately implement appropriate control measures.

d) The process of reducing the risk of infestation through watercraft inspection and education.

The Bureau of Land Management will administer a total funding amount of $96,000 to support the Invasive Aquatic Species Inventory and Infestation Prevention Program

The United States Department of the Interior, the mother agency that is funding this program, is the nation's leading agency that is responsible for providing the people with access to the country's natural and cultural heritage.
