As an important addition to all its programs and activities, the United States Office of Rural Development has been running the Low-Income Housing Repair Loans and Grants program wherein they intend to assist very low-income income homeowners in rural areas in the difficult and costly process of putting their homes up for repair.

The United States Office of Rural Development has outlined that the funds that will be loaned out and granted under the Low-Income Housing Repair Loans and Grants be used only for certain purposes such as making general home repairs and improvements, or making repairs and improvements that will eliminate health and safety hazards that are currently present in the property.

In addition, the funds may also be used in this fashion to repair or remodel residential properties in order to make them more accessible and more comfortable for household members that have physical disabilities.

The activities that can be included in the repair and renovation of the properties can also include, repair or replacement of heating, electrical, and plumbing services, and water and waste disposal systems, as well as roof or basic structures and weatherization systems.
