OMICS Technologies For Predictive Modeling of Infectious Diseases Program
Page 2

Essentially, this program has been established to make use of the aforementioned "omics" technologies to develop predictive modeling processes of infectious disease initiation, progression and outcome.

The guidelines of the grant requires that the applicants develop a program that has a solid foundation on data analysis and mathematical modeling to identify, quantify, model and predict the architecture and dynamics of systems-wide host/pathogen molecular interaction networks, including metabolic, regulatory and signaling networks, at different stages of infection.

The program hopes that the State-of-the-art next-generation sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and other high-throughput "omics" technologies could successfully enable the efficient generation of very large experimental data sets that can be integrated to build/train predictive computational models of complex biological systems.

To support these initiatives, the NIH is set to administer funds in the amount of $13,000,000.

The institutions and organizations who will be deemed eligible to participate this program are the following:

a) State Governments

b) County Governments

c) City or Township Governments

d) Special District Governments

f) Independent School Districts

g) Public and State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education

h) Native American Tribal Governments

i) Nonprofit Organizations

j) Small Businesses

k) Private Institutions of Higher Education

Mechanisms Mediating Osteoarthritis in Aging
The National Institutes of Health, in close cooperation with The National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, has recently established a program called Mechanisms Mediating Osteoarthritis in Aging in an effort to improve and encourage the characterization of new and underutilized models in order to gain a deeper understanding of mechanisms that are involved in osteoarthritic progression.

Basic Cancer Research in Cancer Health Disparities Grant Program
The National Institutes of Health has partnered with the National Cancer Institute(NCI) in an effort to establish the Basic Cancer Research in Cancer Health Disparities Grant Program wherein both agencies seek to solicit applications from eligible investigators and researchers who are interested in conducting basic, mechanistic research concentrating on the biologic/genetic causes of cancer health disparities.

Small Business Innovation Research Phase IIB Bridge Awards
In line with this mission, the NIH has recently constituted the Small Business Innovation Research Phase IIB Bridge Awards to Accelerate the Development of Cancer Therapeutics, Imaging Technologies, Interventional Devices, Diagnostics, and Prognostics Toward Commercialization Program.

Behavioral Interventions to Address Multiple Chronic Health Conditions in Primary Care Program
The National Institutes of Health has recently established the Behavioral Interventions to Address Multiple Chronic Health Conditions in Primary Care Program wherein it intends to utilize common conceptual models in creating independent interventions that will contribute to the modification of health behaviors and the improvement of health outcomes in patients diagnosed with co-morbid chronic diseases and health conditions.
